One of LWCC’s features is in an incredible vocational department. Here students can pick up trades that will help them find a job when they exit. An example of Cooperative Learning at work could be the welding program. If a grate needs to be made to cover an area of a sidewalk that has been removed in order to make accessibility to a sewer pump more convenient, we could then break this developmental process up into groups. One group would take the topic of what type of iron they would use. Another group would then converse on the type of iron that is being used and how to design a strong, but yet movable, grate. Finally, a third group could see if that design and type of iron is conducive for this environment, and if the grating pattern will allow enough water flow, as to not impede any structural damage to the rest of the sidewalk. Once the group has been through all the steps of the Cooperative Learning Process, and they feel that they have come up with the best solution, they then can begin the construction of the grate.
